if you'll be my bodyguard, i can be your long lost pal..

a really quick outfit post today, which i know i haven't done in shamelessly long - sorry!!

today's outfit started out with the dress, which is the same as the floral matalan one i bought a couple of weekends ago, and which i really like the shape of..the main reason for this dress in particular was that i had an assignment to do at lunchtime which i was told had to be "smartly dressed"..i have real trouble with these kinds of tags! i mean, apart from being a complete oxymoron, what the heck is "smart casual"?!

because i work in a fairly relaxed, small office environment, i never give 'work' clothes that much consideration, i tend to go for my wardrobe staples which are a dress and heels in varying colours and styles..but, as i'm sure is eveident, i've never been part of the black trousers brigade, even in waitressing jobs i've tried to inject a little of my own style into the 'wear black' requirement..i'm quite sure that sometimes my friends see me as a little too 'dressed-up' for daytime wear, and at others, with the kitsch and kooky prints of which i am so fond, too casual when it comes to client meetings or seminars..so this specific requirement over clothing did throw me just a little..what does one wear in a "smartly dressed" situation?! a suit? even if i owned one i'd think it too formal or too funeral..i always see trousers as casual (if jeans) or too frumpy (on me, even the tailored variety)..not that i own any to choose from..

so i started with the dress, and went from there, through a couple of floral cardigans, which i then decided against as i felt that pattern-clashing, whilst deliberate, (possibly even to the point of ironic) were probably a little too immature..so, i went for the plain teal shrug, which i tucked into the belt of the dress at the back in order to avoid the superhero-cape look of the right-hand photo..hair up, as i feel that's always neater and more formal than just letting it loose, especially as mine doesn't seem to have any particular style at the moment!

i then added the lengthy bead necklace as i like the colour, and put a pair of black / white polka dot shoes (irregular choice, present from my sis) with the whole lot, and a cream rose ring..all in all i was quite pleased with the turn-out, although i;m not sure how it rates in the smart-casual ratings..is it just me who has issues with this?

oh, and as it turned out, by lunch it was pouring with rain, so my outfit attempts were hidden by my winter coat anyway :(

the ribbon on my wrist says do not open before christmas..

since my clothes inspiration seems to have taken a between-season break at present, i thought i'd take this chance to do something a little different and post some of the things which have recently made it onto my perpetual wish-list..

i have a little note section on my phone, which i do tend to update when i see something i like, but have to wait til payday or something..or something which is pricey and therefore goes on there for a couple of weeks, to see if i still actually love it as much after a couple more weeks - i'm such an impulse buyer!

the first is this lovely dark green cardi with a dog, from laura ashley - my sister often likes to mock my love for laura ashley - she seems to think it's aimed at 'grannies', but i think that's part of what i like about it - they tend to always go for classic cuts, and whilst expensive, it's one shop where you do seem to pay for quality..

i also love the deep bottle green shade of this, but i think that at £55 i need to take a look at my two drawers-ful of existing cardigans, and maybe pare that down a little prior to purchasing this one..

next one is rather unnecessary, as i do already own TWO sewing boxes, but i do love this little cath kidston sewing box, perfect for keeping all the necessary bits in for all the garments and projects i have yet to get round to "/

LOVE LOVE LOVE these - i tried them on in the Liverpool Office store, but managed to resist them, but i think they may be on my shopping list next week as soon as pay-day rolls around..they're impractically high -maybe, but the colour and the ribbons and the little tie detailing more than makes up for that! oh and the name - 'bedroom antics' - can't help but make you grin!

oh i was reading some fashion rag yesterday and turned the page to this taffeta beauty from jigsaw, but i think it's staying in paper version until sale-time, as i don't think i will ever have £295 to spend on a dress :(

it is beautiful though, i love the autumn shades, and the fact it comes with a removeable tulle net petticoat..
maybe one for the xmas list?? :D

of course, no wish-list of mine would ever be complete without a pair, or two, of Irregular Choice, as who can ever have enough pairs?! I love these, and they seem to be almost impossible to find now, so i shall be ordering them on payday!! :)

and this other pair of irregular choice..I
love the grey felt background, and the little Scottie dog detailing which runs from one shoe to the other..another pair for the Xmas list perhaps..

i signed off and closed my eyes, then i was falling through the sky..

at the weekend, i excitedly had chance to plan an outfit around the long lusted-after poodle print blazer which I love! I saw this on a photo on the h&m website (more mention of this later), a few months back now, and totally fell for it. It's so me, I was told at the weekend by a friend who was staying, and o guess she has a point; bold colours? Check. kitschy print? Check! I decided it was on the "wishlist" as soon as I saw it, but living in a litle town, I didn't hold out much hope of ever seeing it in my local h&m..when I asked, the girl did say she thoguht she'd remember that one! Eventually the story ends with the fabulous alex texting me, and brightening up a hellish day of guide camp to tell me she had tracked or down..and since I picked it up I must admit it had been hanging from a bedpost ever since, begging to be styled into an outfit..I pondered this as I couldn't sleep in the early hours of saturday, and finally decided upon a black vest top with yellow floral print, last seen making an appearance with my mustard skirt..a primark bargain I think..I teamed it with a rather dull black jersey skirt, and a pair of lacey black tights..for a trip to the newlife charity warehouse with my friend, where I managed to bag some lovely bargains which will be featured soon I'm sure..
As for the h&m website..the online shopping facility is now supposedly up and running, but having had a little browse today, I can't say I'm all that impressed, it's not the best to navigate, and doesn't seem to be all that full of products! But I'm sure it will be ok in time!

stop this crazy talk - leave right now and close the door..

i know i've worn this primark jumpsuit quite recently, and with the same shoes (quelle horreur!!), but as i got very little sleep and was feeling v uninspired this morning, and i really like both the jumpsuit and boots, i thought i'd wear them to work..
i added a dullsville black cardi, since the key elements should be the jumpsuit and boots, and also the primark pearl strand necklace i picked up at the weekend..

you think i'm funny when i tell the punch line wrong..

sorry, vix, i know i've been promising a new car post for ages - here are some not brilliant pics - it looks better with the roof down, but not in this weather haha..i'm still experiencing that new-car glow, and i've had it a couple of weeks now, but it does still excite me every time i drive it..i did have a bit of a dilemma when it came to thinking about a new car..i work only the other side of town to where i live, so it's not like i need a car for that, i have a pretty pink bike which i do try to make as much use of as possible on summery days..

my last car was a land rover, (my second one) perfect for carrying huge amounts of (mostly, unnecessary) stuff around with me, but also great for off-roading when it comes to car boots and guide camps, both of which feature a fair amount in my life..but, after it proved itself to be a little more than slightly unreliable (they sadly didn't make their reputation based on build-quality, it seems), i decided to broaden my horizons..which meant more choice, even further from a decision!
luckily, my dad loves to car-shop, so we did a tour of the local garages to come up with a short-list of options..and came back with the decision made, and the deal done - i just had to wait a month until it could be registered as we bought the showroom's demonstrator "/
that said, that was clearly a good decision, as the sales guy tells me that they have subsequently sold several others, which won't be ready 'til october - i mean, seriously, who want's to wait until october for their new convertible..
i think the choice of car has somethign to do with my recent love of hats - it has heated seats, which means come winter, i WILL be driving around with the roof down (provided it's not actually rainign) with the seats warmed, and wrapped up in a chunky scarf and wooly hat - i've always wanted a convertible, so better make the most of it!! :)
and to keep it topical, i was feeling fairly uninspiured this morning, so just wore the outfit i suggested in yday's post - new floral warehouse dress with the navy lace body under it, and some purple poetic licence shoe boots i wore not that long ago..

empty pockets tell a story..

oh boy. today's post is going to be both long, and image-heavy..i have found so many beautiful bargains recently to be excited about, and am nowhere near getting through wearing all of the recent additions to the wardrobe - do you think i shoud impose a shopping ban until all such recent acquisitions have had at least one outing? my bank balance would certainly appreciate it i'm sure..

this pretty purple dress is one of the new buys which needs an outing - foudn in the warehouse section of debenhams, aas my friend and i were actually walking through to find the duvet covers and home section..i saw it and bought it on impulse, despite the fact she didn't approve and that it reminded her of curtains..but each to their own i suppose..i've been drawn to a lot of dark blues and purples recently, so think this will feature quite a lot in upcoming outfits..

i think i'm a little bit obsessed with hats recently..I've acquired so many in the last couple of months, think I may even devote a post to them in the near future..at the weekend i had a fairly lazy sunday, picking up a friend for an afternoon round the shops, mainly for a drive out and something to do..I decided to wear a hat I purchased on a trip to bham with my sis last week..I'm not really sure what the style of hat is, but I liked the bright blue of it, and decided I wanted to wear a pair of irregular choice heels which have only had one outing so far, and I felt they deserved another..to go with these, I added a fairly plain sundress with a greyish blue stripe in it, and a cropped floral orange tshirt, both from river island at different times..the blue belt, I have no idea where that came from, it always makes me think of wrestling or something..

this pretty brown dress was a find by the lovely alex, in her local river island store - try as we might, neither of us have seen it anywhere else, or on the website, and there was only the one..she bought it, but decided against it, so i purchased it from her and it arrived last week, so i got to thinking about what to wear with it..to pick out the orange in the pattern, i added these beads, and the rings, which came from h&m last week from the bullring, i like the stag the best!

another entirely new outfit, this floaty dress was such a lovely primark bargain..it's printed with little zebras which i think are major cute! i really liked it, the length is quite short, but even so i decided to brave a pair of heels with it..this pair of lilac and silver "cage" style heels were not the kind of style i would generally go for, and really I was looking for a different pair, but i found them in the sale in new look, and they were an entire £3!! So far, in the last two weeks I've worn them twice, so at £1.50 a wear I do think they've been a fab bargain! i actually can't decide which item I like best from this outfit, because i really like the waistcoat! unbelievably this was another primark buy - they have a "limited collection" available at the moment, which seems to be filled with velvet and tweed pieces..a little more pricey than the regular stock, yes..but I personally think it's worth it for something that little bit different..it's my nod to the tweed trend this season I guess, and I do think it will be featuring more often!!
and it's not just with the short dress and heels, recently I've been aware that I have been braver than usual when it comes to tryng things which I wouldn't..par example, we all know I've not been a trousers girl for a long time, but in the past month or so I have acquired two jumpsuits, and two pairs of harem pants, which I actually do like to wear..mainly as a lazy option when pjs just won't cut it, but I see it as a step towards broadening my horizons and not just sticking to the old faithful dress-tights-and-heels formula..
in my last blog post I know I briefly mentioned discovering a shop called vero moda, which I really liked (I'm sure I'm late catching on to this one but must say it wasn't a shop I'd ever really noticed prior to mine and alex's stumbling upon it in liverpool)..anyway, when my sis asked me to take her shopping for a new wardrobe to take to uni, I drove her to the bullring and tracked it down, in addition to my usual high-street haunts..she was impressed, ending up spending about £50 on several items of clothing.which is definitely good going..my favourite of my own purchases frorm there is this floral playsuit - obviously i was drawn to the bright colours and recoiled at the fact it was a playsuit - i.e short!.. but after trying it on, i wasn't too revolted by the look, and as alex pointed out (sensibly) it's about the same length as many of my dresses, so not that bad - i think i just had a kind of mental block when it comes to shorts / trousers..determined they don't suit! i have worn it out of the house once so far, just chucking it on with a pair of flat boots and this navy chunky cardi, but next time i wear it i will try to make it more exciting! :)

another new piece - this green floral pinafore dress, slightly lower cut at the sides, and shorter in the skirt than i had planned, but a cheap charity shop curtain has found a new calling..i picked out the faded pinkky colour in the floral print with the plain dusky pink tee from h&m, and the bag was a new look one a long while ago, which i really like for the croc effect, and the shade of deep plum - it totally makes me think of autumn - purples and blues seem to be my favourite colours now we seem to be at the start of autumn!

another item i just wasn't sure how i would wear when i saw it in the
store, but seeing it again in bham, i decided the floral / bird print was just too cute to resist - h&m have got some lovely floaty pieces in at the moment, and although this top was a little shorter than i would have chosen, i decided to layer it with similar colours and for a day at work it seemed to work ok..the tulip skirt is one of my old favourites, and it works really well as a simple basic piece that can be dressed up or down, depending on how i feel that particular morning..

my impromptu visit to the shops at the weekend not only led to the purchase of the purple warehouse dress at the top of the post, but also a trip to primark..knowing how much i loved the zebra print dress when i had worn it, i couldn't resist the floral version of the same - i do tend to end up with the same item in various different colours when i really love something..is this a bad thing, i wonder?? also, not sure how i will wear the blue lace bodysuit, but i liked the dark blue colour, and quite fancy a little more layering in the future, so will maybe try it under the warehouse dress, or a different summery short-sleeved dress to give it a layered wintery feel..the petticoat skirts were in the sale at £5 each, and i loved both the colours so much i had to get them, with thoughts of layering them under dresses for a fuller look..and the furry headband was a bargainous £1 which i also couldn't resist..the necklace is all those layers of beads in one, which i liked as well - primark really do have some lovely things in store at the moment!

i think i am generally fairly excited about the change of the season..i always get that warm feeling when it comes to considering scarves, hats and gloves..along with winter coats..all the nice warm layers which come with the start of the school year..that said, i'm picturing crispy autumn mornings, turning to that frosty crunch underfoot - neither of which i should think we will actually get to experience - more like slushy rain, and storms..damp gloves and soggy scarves just don't create that same snuggly image for me, but it's nice to dream!! i look forward to layering, and mainly hats this year - i really am becoming a little obsessed with funky headwear!!! today's outfit was chosen around the fact that i wanted to wear my new accessorize cloche hat - it's purple and probably the most expensive hat i have ever purchased - also the most expensive part of the outfit - but the dress was a bargainous £1.27 from ebay, otherwise i'm sure it would have been more expensive!!
the shoe boots are a pair which i picked up in the sale in the irregular choice store in london (mainly because they were my size and in the sale), they are a poetic licence pair - a little less "out there" on the whole than their sister brand IC, but some of them are just as lovely - i think anyway :) i figured that they would go with the colour of the hat rather well anyway, and pick out the purple of hte print on the dress..

this song is only wishful thinking..

this is actually something i wouldn't have thought i would ever wear - not exactly being a fan of anything trouser-like, yet something drew me towards this jumpsuit in the liverpool primark (it may have been alex's encouragement !!!) after our trying-on session when we got our haul home, i was probably up to 85% convinced i liked it, although figured it would need a little pinning / tweaking in order to be totally comfortable wearing it, but since buying it i have now worn it twice in the space of a week or so - that's good going for me!! the first outing was to Silverstone for the day last week, where my dad was participating in a driving session at the porsche test track..i teamed the jumpsuit with one of my first ever pairs of irregular choice - gold spatz ankle boots..which i love, as they are nice and comfy even after a day of walking round :) the black cardi is one of my wardrobe staples at the moment, i think i wear it far too often - it's starting to look rather tatty in fact - so i think i need to be more adventurous with my layering..but i love the jumpsuit!
this grey / floral dress was a sale find during my trip to liverpool to visit the marvellous alex..it was from vero moda - a shop i hadn't been in before, but would definitely bear in mind in the future - the store reminded me a little of zara in it's layout and the style of clothes, and we were drawn to the sale rails - i found this dress for a fab £15 and a wonderful floral playsuit for £10! this dress was worn to work last week with the grey beret as i drove to work in the new car wth the roof down, so mainly to stop my hair getting *too* windswept! i'm almost excited about the colder weather - so long as it's crisp and not raining, expect roof-down driving with a wooly hat and scarf and the heated seats on full!! :)

this isn't hollywood, but this is where you turn and kiss me..

wow..i almost can't believe it's september already! to be completely british, a little whinge about the weather over the weekend, as it was seriously autumnal!! however - i spent my weekend in liverpool with the fabulous alex, and the weather certainly didn't stop us having a fab time! the wind was rather crazy on sunday, but we managed to pack in plenty of shopping (shamefully none of which has been photographed yet, but i will get round to wearing them all asap - i seem to have SO much new stuff to get through recently, what with ebay wins and new purchases etc..)

on sunday we headed to the Tate for the Picasso exhibition - i'm not really that culturally involved as a rule, but some of my guides went to the exhibition at the beginning of the holidays, and told me it was really fab, and worth seeing even if you weren't much of an "arty"..i thought the Picasso collection was great, there were some fab pieces and a nice insight into his life..then we meandered through the lower levels of modern art, and i was a little confused by some of the "artworks" to say the least..there were some disturbing sculptures, and some downright odd things being exhibited, but i just kept reminding myself that art means different things to different people, and whilst i may not consider a life-sized bed constructed of slices of (mouldy) white bread as a work of art, it's possible that others might do..

is it shameful to admit that my favourite "artwork" of the day was the huuge mural we stumbled upon down a side street on our way to lunch? i'm not sure what it was for, but i thought it was fab!! we did spend a little while fooling around in front of it to get some photos, much to the amusement of any passers-by i'm sure :D

and to keep it relatively topical, an outfit post from the weekend - sunday i wore the least appropriate dress i could have picked for the blustery weather - this gorgous floral number was a fluke find in a london branch of h&m about 18months ago, i spotted it on the escalator, and decided i MUST have it - which i did, despite the fact it was tagged a size smaller than i am, as it was the only one in the shop! that said, it's a wraparound style, so still fits ok, but is not the dress to wear in windy conditions, as i was forever pulling it down as it tried to blow away / open!! hence the boring grey cardi being tied around it..the pink poodle heels were starting to get a little uncomfortable after a whole day of negotiating cobbled streets and lots of art gallery-pondering..
