Friday Favourites 089..

I don't know if it's because I've done quite a lot of shopping lately and therefore seem to have already bought all of the things I wanted this season, or because my shoe challenge has meant that I'm wearing my way through my existing ones before I can buy any more, or what, but this week the only things I really want to buy are sewing patterns and fabric.

I'm trying to hold out on buying any more fabric until I've used up what I already have, but as for the patterns, I have to admit I've been getting a little bored of making just the same one or two with a couple of variations. I want a new challenge.

Untitled-4
001: By Hand London Flora Pattern, £14
001: Although a lot of the sewing fanatics out there seem to have made trillions of By Hand patterns up, I've got to admit I haven't yet taken the plunge. Until this pattern, the Flora Dress, I've not been convinced that the shape of anything they have would actually suit me.

That said, I've heard such lovely things about the company that I'd love to give this one a try. A full skirt, and a cute summery bodice seem a bit more "me".

By Hand are also embarking on a little adventure, it seems. They're currently looking for backers to help them kickstart their new fabric printing venture. Imagine being able to design and print your very own fabric, in the UK! I'm very excited about this. If you are too, you can find out more and help them on their way by donating here..

B5919
002: Butterick B5919, $11.98
002: I've been swooning over quite a number of the Butterick Retro pattens lately, and then telling myself that I can't get them because they'll require more fabric than I have in my stash at the moment. I've been buying a maximum of 2.5m in any fabrics I've bought lately as that is plenty for the patterns I've been using, but obviously if I want to make a fuller skirt, I'll need more fabric.

So, instead I've found this one, which has a few cute variations to the cut-out at the back of the neck and the collar, which I like. I've always found Butterick patterns easy to follow and construct, so I don't suppose this one will be any different.

Gather Kits Mortmain Dress
003: Gather Kits Mortmain Dress, £13
003: This third pattern has been on my radar for a while now, after seeing Roisin make quite a few of them. I'm totally drawn to the quirky illustration on the packaging. Yes, I'm aware that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and all that jazz, but I totally do, okay?

One of the features of the Mortmain is the exposed zip, which I am quite tempted to make with one of these lace zips, in a contrasting colour to the fabric. What do you think?

All I need now is some actual spare time, to get some of this list of "want to makes" actually done.

    1. I like the first one, although I don't think I'd go for the mullet hem option.
