I seem to say this a lot more often lately, but this is one of my favourite dresses for a while. I think this is perhaps down to being more picky with the fabrics I buy. Rather than ordering something because it's a bargain, I've lately been more likely to hold out for a good deal on something I know I really want and have a particular project in mind for.

This octopus print Cotton and Steel fabric came from The Village Haberdashery when I was in London with Sarah a couple of weekends ago. I'd told myself I wasn't to buy any fabric, but in fact came home with three. I'd sold more than enough of my stash to cover it in the preceding week, but still felt a bit guilty.

But in fact, since making this dress up on Saturday, I've already worn it twice. Which is pretty good going for me and maybe makes it a less guilty purchase?

  1. Ooh I only came across Cotton and Steel recently but I love their designs, so they're definitely on my list of future fabric purchases! I think I'm going to have to do the same as you and only buy fabric with a specific project in mind for it, because I generally try to find the cheapest I can since I have very few places around me to buy fabric, and those that are around are really quite expensive! I'm planning to do an order online though soon, so I'm collecting ideas for that at the moment :)
And love this dress too! Simplicity 2444 is one of my favourites and it works really well with the fabric.

    1. I've been working my way through what I have, as well, which is a start I guess. I have almost used the three I bought from London now anyway, so I'm back to where I was, plus I've cleared out a few fabrics I'd changed my mind about.

    1. Haha, thanks. I tend to like the recent ones more, I guess as I get better and neater at making?

  3. I *am* a little freaked out by octopuses if I am honest but it does look very effective! xx

    1. Aww, I think they're pretty cute, but I guess they can be freaky.

  4. That bag is epic. You really are getting your wear out of those shoes aren't you? I never wear my green ones often enough, they are so lovely.

  6. That dress is so cool and I love how you've styled it. Cotton and Steel have some really cool prints at the moment. Have you seen their purple robot cotton sateen fabric? I also try to buy fabric with specific projects in mind and generally only allow myself to purchase it once I've completed a project. Speaking of purchases, I've just order some bright pink jumbo corduroy and I'm so excited about it!!

    1. Thank you. Yes, the robots are one of the ones on my wishlist. And WHAT is the cord going to become? That's super exciting!
