This was my outfit on Saturday for my annual little jaunt to Leeds to watch the Northern Ballet matinee. This year, we saw their adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, which was fabulous despite being perhaps an odd choice to adapt as a ballet. It's been a long time since I read the book - I remember choosing it from the library van when I was about 14.

My dress, complete with a full petticoat underneath, made me feel all swishy all day, although it was always in the way when I got in the car or had to shuffle through the row to my seat at the theatre. A small price to pay, though. The dress is the wonderful Dolores in cherry print from Collectif - a present from Brighton, where I felt like a kid in a sweet shop in the Collectif store, particularly when we realised there was a whole section of sale items upstairs!

Tapping up the wardrobe room for some red accessories, I decided it was definitely time for the bus bag to have another outing. I love that this is big enough to tote a book around with me - an essential in my opinion!

A pair of Irregular Choice heels (last worn here) and a red cardigan and I was all set. If I were more brave I'd have maybe attempted some red lipstick, but I think that's a step too far for me.

  2. a petticoat is always worth it!
I used to like my bags to be as tiny as possible, these days I carry my world around with me.

    1. I like to tote a lot of things around with me when I'm out for the day. A book, or my Kindle, if I'm travelling on the train or something is essential.

    1. I'm not so convinced about the smiling photos, but there were only a few to choose from - the best of a bad bunch.

  4. You look absolutely stunning, Char! That dress was made for you. I love how you've accessorized it, too. `I've never read 1984, but it does seem like a weird choice to turn in to a ballet. Hope you enjoyed it! xx

    1. I really did enjoy it - strange choice, yes, but I think that's why I like Northern Ballet so much.
