Polka dots and piano bars..

Dress: Collectif
So, a couple of weekends ago I went to the opera. I'd never seen Carmen before, although I'm a fan of some of the songs, so I was really pleased to get tickets - it was only showing for one night and sold out fast!

Despite feeling exhausted, which seems to be the norm for me of late, I managed to have a burst of enthusiasm and was pleased to have an opportunity to wear a dress I'd snapped up from the Collectif sale. It's got an overlay of tulle net which is embroidered with coloured polka dots and it reminds me of party dresses I had as a child. Nostalgia strikes again.

Jacket: River Island
This coat is one I always dig out when I want something to take me between seasons. I love the neck detail and have been looking for a sewing pattern with similar details, but the half-length sleeves make it a little weird to wear in the depths of the colder winter season. It was perfect to go over this dress for the walk to the theatre a couple of weekends ago, as it was a rather mild evening.

Another opportunity to use my lovely new piano bar bag - I'm still absolutely besotted with this. It's such a cute and detailed design. I actually removed the cross-body strap before I left the house as I think it works better as a handled bag for an evening event.

  1. I really like the dress!!! Super cute and works with the piano bar. Carmen has some great tunes in it. I played for a production of it for a week once and I really enjoyed all the tunes!

  2. This dress is stunning. So unusual and a very happy looking dress I think. Really like the jacket too. I'm off to watch the Opera at my local Vue soon, never been to the Opera before, so am excited to try it.

    1. Thanks - I did wonder if it were a little too summery, but I think it worked fine with the jacket.

  3. I love Tiny Ted so much, I actually wore mine again the other day. I'm still drooling over that bag too. Long gloves are the way to go for shorter sleeves-I have a few to go with my coats that have 3/4 length sleeves. They can vary though in length...those sleeves look a bit shorter than mine, so they might have to be mega long gloves!

    1. Ooh, I wish I'd thought of gloves. I definitely have some somewhere.

  4. It's a gorgeous dress, I have a nostalgia dress too - a lace maxi that reminded me so much of a dress I wanted from Tammy Girl when I was about 10.
The coat works really well, and it's very fitting for a night at the opera.

    1. Oh, I remember Tammy Girl and being obsessed with a sequin dress which my parents didn't want to buy me for my 13th birthday as they felt it was too "grown up".
