It's the most amazing show on Earth..

Shoes: Poetic Licence
Here's the first outfit I've worn in a while which I actually really wanted to share over here. Again, I'm pretty lucky as most of this outfit is made up of presents I've received recently - the shoes were passed on to my by the lovely Mrs Sock, and the telephone bag was a birthday gift from Alex (she is an awesome gift buyer!)

Bag: Lulu Hun
I love this dress. I'd been a little wary of the quality and fit as I've not tried anything from Sammydress before. but it's rather nice. The top section is a thick jersey, and the skirt is cotton, with a lovely vintage style circus print. Very Lindy Bop in style, I think. Sammydress currently have a discount code SW1001 which will give you 12% off, so they're worth a look.

I'm starting the week and already thoroughly exhausted, after a long weekend with not enough sleep. But hey ho. Things are good, so I have no complaints.

Friday Favourites 249..

Oh, this week has just totally run away with me and suddenly, before I even have chance to turn around, it's Friday afternoon once again and I've not done everything I'd planned to. Argh.

But here are some things which have taken my fancy this week, as we head into the weekend once again...

FF249 Image
001 // 002 // 003
001: Honestly, I think that every time Joanie bring out some new things, I like them more and more.. This dress is called Lupita and I love it for it's large 50s style floral print, and the bow detail to the back. The perfect thing for a garden party or a summer wedding, maybe...?

002:  One of the things I've been trying to focus more on is sorting my nails out. After years of being ignored, definitely not getting enough calcium, and being left to ruin, I'm finally getting them back on track. But I can never find my nail scissors, so a little kit like this would be perfect for keeping them all contained together.

003: Well aware that Vendula seem to be getting so much love from me, lately, but that's just because they're brilliant. I totally adore every one of their bags, and my collection is growing slowly. I know I've featured this bag but in another colourway, but I think this awesome tropical parrot looks great against the cream background, too. I like the fact that it's got lots of textured embellishments, too. Perfect little details are what  make me such a fan of the brand.

What have you been wishing for this week? Sadly I've got a super busy weekend planned, as I'm kinda wishing for a day off.

Designosaur? Yeah!

IMG_7504

I guess the eagle-eyed Instaviewers out there will have already seen this, but it's so cute that I wanted to share some more photos of it. A lovely birthday gift; I was very excited to receive this DesignosaurYEAH necklace. I've had a necklace from them in the past and frankly love it. My George necklace has seen a lot of wear and is still a firm favourite, so I already have a fondness for the brand.

IMG_7502

Anyhow, I was super excited to open this present and really love the design of the necklace. Those pastel shades are perfect together, in my opinion and I love the levels of detail. Bravo, Designosaur for always making such lovely things!

Yarn Along {12}

IMG_8453[1]

It's been absolutely yonks since I joined in with one of these, but I did quite a bit of work on my current knitting project whilst I was in France, and unlike the usual measure of things (which is to set it down when I get home and then promptly forget about it for ummm...ages), I've actually kept some momentum with this. I suspect that'd because it's nearly finished, and knits up quite quickly so I'm seeing progress.

I'm making a mermaid tail blanket from a BlackSheepWools kit I bought at the Hobbycraft show last year. It seemed like a nice contained project to take with me on holiday, with the added bonus that I knew I had everything I needed for it in the kit. (Always a gamble trying to figure out how much wool you're likely to get through on something you've not knitted before, I've found.)

As for books? Well, I'm currently in the midst of a couple:

  • Right Here Waiting for You  - I'm currently reading this on the treadmill on my Kindle. Written by someone I've followed on Twitter for a long while, I was confident that she'd have written something great and she really has. The perfect summer read.
  • The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet - I picked this up in Shakespeare and Company when I was in Paris, because the other three were all reading the same thing. And I have to say, much like anything Alex recommends to me, I'm really enjoying it..

Read anything good lately?

Friday Favourites 248..

FF248 Image
001 // 002 // 003 // 004

Ohh, for all I was complaining about this week getting off to a kinda ridiculous start, it's (yet again) zipped by. I've barely done any of the things I'd meant to, but there we are. Sometimes that's just how it goes.

Some of my favourite things this week, then?

001: This cardigan, from Joanie, which I'm fairly sure I've featured here before. But it's still awesome and I think it would match this week's dress rather perfectly.

002: Speaking of which, I've been seeing this Unique Vintage dress pop up all over the place (Instagram) lately. I absolutely love the bodice button detail, and the tie straps and just about everything about it. Plus, it's currently on final sale, which kind of means it's now or never, no...?

003: Ah, Mal E Bow. Every time I spot a new colourway of these, I wonder how my Irregular Choice collection can possibly still be lacking in any. But it is.

004: And, just when I thought Kate Spade had my heart when it came to novelty bags, in steps Betsey Johnson and this freaking fantastic frog clutch. Want want want.

What's caught your eye this week...?

Vendula Sewing Shop Grab Bag..

IMG_8355
Vendula Sewing Shop Grab Bag
Has there ever been a more perfect design for a handbag, in all of the world....? I mean, I'm going to go with "no, there has not." For me, anyway. This is the freaking awesome SEWING shop front bag, from Vendula. I know that in the past I've waxed lyrical about so many of their amazing designs, but I think that this one might just be my absolute favourite.

IMG_8357

As with every other Vendula bag I've seen, this is just full of wonderful little detail. The rolls of fabric, and the shop-sign attached by chain give it a lovely three-dimensional feel.

IMG_8359

As with most of the grab bags, the top of the bag is hinged and shaped to look like a shop canopy, and I love the blue and cream used here - probably my favourite colour combination. The top of the bag is sturdy and it's a great size to keep all of the essentials in (even my diary, which I'd be lost without, but is quite large).

IMG_8360

More amazing detail, with the street number printed on the front and some lovely heart-shaped bunting just making up some of the little touches. So much to take in.

IMG_8361

Perhaps my favourite part of all - not only is this a tiny sewing shop, but on the back, there's also a pink bike, filled with supplies. It's basically me. All in all, a wonderful birthday present which I totally adore.

#whyistherenoflamingoemoji

IMG_8172
Dress: Rosegal // Bag: Yoshi
So, I know I've talked about this dress before and the whole dilemma behind fast fashion / making your own clothes. Since the last time I mentioned it, I've probably not worn this dress all that much - maybe a couple of times. Nevertheless, it was one I definitely *had* to take with me to Paris.

IMG_8171
Sandals: Irregular Choice // Cardigan: Collectif
I mean, I kind of feel like maybe this outfit overdid the Paris theme, just a little, what with the bag and the dress, but I'm kinda still cool with it. It's not as though I get to visit all that often, is it?! And my amazing, wonderfully sparkly shoes were an unexpected birthday gift whilst I was there - I wasted little time in wearing them out for dinner on Sunday night and received plenty of comments on them.

IMG_8175

Ridiculously, or possibly just incredibly organised, we'd already decided that we wanted to try and track down this wall before we even got to the area. Pretty cute, no? I felt a little sorry for the people who clearly live in this building and have to put up with heaps of people taking photos of their flamingo mural wall, though. We'd assumed it would be on the wall of Flamingo Pizza, but it totally isn't.

Melancholy and champagne..

IMG_8230
Dress: Joe Browns
Pretty much already exhausted after the weekend, which is kind of ridiculous considering it was super chilled. I spent a lot of it drinking coffee, catching up with friends and even managed a little sewing, with some assistance from Sarah. I'm feeling pretty excited to get some more projects done - I just need to actually find some time now.

IMG_8231
Shoes: Irregular Choice // Tights: ASOS
This outfit was hands down my favourite one for a while, mostly down to the fact it's made up of presents from some of my favourite people. The shoes (so freaking sparkly!) were a gift from my fellow Paris-goers, and I wore them out for dinner one of the evenings and they received sooo many comments! The dress was a birthday present from my favourite family and this little t-rex is a gift from a while ago - he has been hanging about for a while, waiting for his chance to shine.

IMG_8230
Bag: Kate Spade
I got all excited about the sunshine last week, but normal service does seem to have resumed now with grey skies and my mood to match. Luckily I have plenty planned this week to keep me busy.

Boys only want love if it's torture..

France 2017 001

What is this weirdness? A Sunday, and yet no new shoes. I mean, there are new shoes. I just haven't managed to get around to taking any decent photos of them. So, instead, here are some of the things which made up my week in France recently.

France 2017 005

Most of my days were spent by a fishing lake. Super remote, and I went for a run around the area each morning, which made me feel a little less awful about missing the gym. There was a lot to explore and plenty of random wildlife to see. Who knew that snakes could swim in lakes?!

France 2017 054

It was my birthday whilst I was there and my friends made a secret surprise birthday cake, which was pretty awesome!

IMG_7798

One excursion was to a local cave site, which had some amazing stalegmites and stalegtites. We learned about how they were formed on our journey through the caves, 30metres below ground level.

IMG_7803

Since it was a pretty chilled week, I mostly wore my new Turia dungarees, which I finished recently. Generally accessorised with stripes and sunburn, as it was nigh on 30C most days.

IMG_7844

I got a lot of knitting done - I bought this kit a the Knitting and Stitching show last year - to make a mermaid tail blanket and it's almost done, which is exciting.

IMG_7787

There were also plenty of trees to climb - either to pick cherries, or just for fun..

Those great whites, they have big teeth..

Pour Moi Malibu Swimsuit: UK Swimwear*
A few weeks ago, I had a bit of a body-confidence meltdown. I was due to head to a spa day, with a friend of mine, and I just couldn't find anything which I was comfortable to wear for a day of swimming and relaxing in the sauna. I made a note that I would have to have a serious search for something I felt I could actually leave the house in.

IMG_7723

Step in UK Swimwear; purveyors of all manner of bikinis and swimsuits, perfect for swimming lengths and / or holidays. They've got a huge selection, and I was hopeful that there had to be *something* which would fit the bill.

I'd not heard of Pour Moi before, but they seem to do a decent range of designs and colours and a lot of their suits are billed as being "control", so with that extra little bit of tummy-flattening design. A definite plus-point for me, who is pretty self-conscious about my stomach. Plus, ruffle detail to the front is super helpful for those of us (also me) who have very little in the bust department in comparison to our legs and hips.

IMG_7715
(Freaking out *so* much about this photo).

So, I tried it on when it arrived and I was actually, seriously looking foward to my next opportunity to swim. I've been using it for a few weeks now; I still try to make it to swimming a few times per week, and there's so far no evidence of any fading or stretching.

I'm also super impressed with the speed of delivery - arrived the following day and I'd not even made my mind up until late afternoon..! I'd definitely not hesitate in recommending them and will be back in future.

Friday Favourites 247..

FF247 Image
001 // 002 // 003

So, hey. I'm back from my holidays and normal service resumes, I guess. I've done very little shopping (well, the things I've bought this week could not be further from my usual wardrobe choices tbh) but here are some of the things I've currently got my eye on..

001: Never one to pass up a nautical themed...anything, I've been practically stalking the Joanie website for this dress to land ever since seeing some teaser pics on Instagram. I love the print and the shape of it - the perfect sunny day dress.

002: Unlike, um, just about everyone I ever see on IG, I have a fairly small collection of Erstwilder jewellery - I have some of the original dinosaur designs, but that's about it. I've never really been that fussed with them, but this puffer-fish really appeals to me. Lottie and Lu seem to be the UK-based place to go for Erstwilder (and other brands such as Deer Arrow and Baccurelli) but I gather you've got to be quick with a lot of styles.

003: Pangs of nostalgia, everytime I see one of these - I can't believe I don't already have a Sunjellies bag - how perfect would this be for trips to the beach, or just for shopping. It would fit nicely in to the basket on my bike, which I'm going to endeavour to use more in the nice weather.

What's caught your eye this week - spotted any summer bargains?

La vie en rose..

France 2017 084
Dress: Handmade (Simplicity 2444) // Cardigan: Primark

So, it feels like an absolute age since I last wrote anything here as I've been gallivanting about in the depths of France, but it's back to reality today with heaps to catch up on. And so many photos to look through, presents to open, and thank you cards to write.

Anyhow, Saturday morning saw us exploring Paris, starting out with a visit to Shakespeare and Co, and then a little wander over to Notre Dame, through this little park with these beautiful rose arches in them.

Obviously, I had to take the opportunity to wear some of my Paris-themed dresses whilst in Paris. Not that I'm at all obsessed..or a total geek. (Oh, wait.) This is one which I made quite recently. I bought the fabric from Guthrie & Ghani back in February, and I knew I wanted to make it into a dress to take with me, so of course I left it right until the last minute.

France 2017 083
Bag: Yoshi // Shoes: New Look
For sooo much walking around the city of love, I opted for these New Look sandals, which I still adore. That little bit sturdier than jelly shoes, with their proper soles, they're so comfortable for wandering around - I can wear them all day without any tired feet, which is nice, and something I don't find from flatter things like Converse.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to geek out just a little more and use my Yoshi Paris bag for my weekend in Paris either. Despite being pretty tiny as handbags go, it had plenty of room for my camera, purse, phone and passport, which is about all I tend to carry about with me when I'm away.

More to follow about what we actually got up to over the weekend, no doubt. (Although if you've caught my Instagram lately, you'll probably already have a fairly good idea...)

Book Review: Come Sundown

515Fq354SfL._SY346_
Come Sundown: Nora Roberts

Bodine Longbow loves to rise with the dawn. As the manager of her family's resort in Western Montana, there just aren't enough hours in the day - for life, for work, for loved ones. She certainly doesn't have time for love, not even in the gorgeous shape of her childhood crush Callen Skinner, all grown up and returned to the ranch. Then again, maybe Callen can change her mind, given time... But when a young woman's body is discovered on resort land, everything changes. Callen falls under the suspicion of a deputy sheriff with a grudge. And for Bodine's family, the murder is a shocking reminder of an old loss. Twenty-five years ago, Bodine's Aunt Alice vanished, never to be heard of again. Could this new tragedy be connected to Alice's mysterious disappearance? As events take a dramatic and deadly turn, Bodine and Callen must race to uncover the truth.

I'm not entirely sure *how* this is my first Nora Roberts book, but as introductions go, it's certainly a good one. I've heard a lot of good things and was pleased to find that this book certainly lived up to expectations.

For some reason, I was expecting something lighter, but this was a great read. Chilling events, with the return of a relative who'd been held in captivity for several years, and their possible connection with some recent murders; suspicion falls on Callen, who has also recently come back to his home town.

Bodine, who runs her family's ranch and has lusted after Cal for many years is eager to prove his innocence. With books like this it's hard to give a taste of the tale without giving too much away about the plot, but needless to say there are some clever twists and I thoroughly enjoyed - a good holiday read.

Sunday Shoes 137..

IMG_7751[1]

There's a reason why I was *quite* so excited about the arrival of this particular pair of Irregular Choice shoes. A looooong time ago, I spied them on the Spartoo site, having never before seen the style (which, incidentally, is called Lady W).

IMG_7750[1]

Fast forward a few years and I'm casually browsing eBay and there's a pair in my size. I drop them into my watch list and expect to forget to bid on them, but I managed, and they're even nicer in real life than I'd expected! I really like the bright turquoise base colour, and the fact that they're covered in seasidey themed shells and starfish.

IMG_7749[1]

They're an almond-toed courtesan with a lightly scalloped edge around the top, and are super comfortable. Worth the wait!
