time to play tag..

What seems like an absolute AGE ago now, Alex tagged me with this tag - i started to fill it all in and then left it behind in the drafts folder, and now Hazel has tagged me too - thank you both and apologies that it's taken me an insane amount of time to get it done:

So the rules are:

1) You must post 11 random things about yourself;
2) Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post;
3) Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer;
4) Go to their blog and tell them you've tagged them;
5) No stuff about 'you're tagged if you're reading this' - legitimately tag people.

Because I'm a total rulebreaker, and really not good at thinking of random facts, I'm just going to fill in my answers to the two sets of questions I've been asked because, let's face it, that will probably be more than enough random factage about me for anyone!

Alex's questions:
1) Are you a morning or a night person? Well, I'm always up and on my first cup of coffee by 6am, so I guess that makes me a morning person. I luckily don't seem to need a lot of sleep, as I'm rarely in bed before 1am..
2) Have you ever stolen anything? (be honest, I won't set the law on you) I didn't personally steal it, but I once went to Starbucks with some friends, and now the mug may or may not reside in my coffee cupboard...
3) What is your favourite word? Ostensibly. I try and cram it into as many conversations as I can. Or possibly 'mog'. Alex and I say a lot of mog, but as it's technically not a word, perhaps it doesn't count..
4) What can't you live without? Coffee.
5) Who/what do you have an irrational dislike of? Chris Evans. I'm not sure why. I also really don't like dogs, and those tendons in the back of your knees make me feel physically sick.
6) Where is your favourite place to eat out? This is a difficult one; I prefer little places than restaurants which are part of a big chain, but better still I'd have friends round for a meal in..
7) Who is the cleverest person you know? Probably my best friend.
8) What was the last film that you saw at the cinema? Was it any good? The last film technically saw at the cinema was Casablanca. I've seen it before, but I still loved it.
9) What is your guilty tv pleasure? I'm not much of a TV person, but I wouldn't turn off if I caught an episode of American Chopper - I love it.
10) Where did you last go on holiday? Does a night in a B+B in Barmouth count last year? If not, it was about six years ago, when I went to South Africa.
11) What makes you go "GAHHHHHHHHHHHHH"? People who ask you to do something, then when you've done it, tell you they've changed their mind and would like something else instead. Friends who cancel at the last minute, or worse still never show up. (I have both of those kind of friend).

Hazel's questions:

What's your favourite thing to do on a sunny day? I think there is nothing better than sitting in the sun with a good book to read; if I'm sitting on the sand at the beach that's my idea of perfect!
Do you have a favourite holiday destination? I'd love to go skiing one day, but equally the thought of a relaxing sunbathing holiday where I could just switch off, sunbathe and swim would be lovely.
Do you have a favourite piece of jewellery? I have so much costume jewellery, it's hard to pick a favourite, but I have a silver charm bracelet which my mum and dad gave me when I was 14 and I've added to with charms over the years - it's pretty full now so I don't often wear it, but I should.
What would be your dream job? I love the idea of owning a little dress shop one day. I'd love to sell my own designs, but I worry about trying to turn something I love into a career in case it makes me love it less.
Do you have any pet hates? Um, milk.
Summer or winter? Summer. I find that even though there is something lovely about wrapping up in wooly layers, there's something about the sun shining which makes everything more positive.
High street or High fashion? High street - mainly because I'm easily bored and therefore favour quantity over quality.
Favourite nail colour? Lilac nails make me smile.
Favourite song? Damn Girl, by the All-American Rejects (my favourite band).
Favourite childhood memory? I remember childhood holidays to Devon with fondness, there was an amazing swimming pool at the hotel we'd stay in, which was in a beautiful area I would love to visit again.
Favourite type of flower? Probably a daisy.
My questions:
1. Do you prefer brown sauce or ketchup on chips?
2. Favourite movie quote?
3. What famous person do you have an inexplicable crush on?
4. What song lyric stands out the most to you?
5. Favourite colour?
6. If you had to choose, woudl you be a fish or a bird?
7. What's the scariest thing you have ever experienced?
8. What is the last thing that made you cry?
9. Stilettos or sandals?
10. Do you prefer to write in pen or pencil?
11. If you had £1000 to spend on something frivolous, what would you spend it on?
I'm going to tag the following lovely blogging girls...
I can't wait to read your answers if you join in!

friday favourites 011..

A 6.30 set-off to today's meeting didn't give me time to sort out any outfit photos, so I thought I'd put together some of the things which are begging me to break my shopping ban this week..I'm quite pleased with how I'm doing, 44 days in - that's almost halfway..

001 Skinny Jeans : River Island, £15
001: I've been lusting after these fan print skinny jeans for months now, ever since seeing them in store a while back and thinking that they will never suit me. I did recently try on a different pair of skinny jeans, and although I'm still not quite convinced they're the most flattering style ever, I didn't completely hate them..Now they're in the sale, they are even more tempting..

002 ASOS elephant print blouse, £35

002: This elephant print shirt needs a place in my wardrobe zoo! I just love it, the shape and the print - I've put it on the birthday list I'm sending to mother..

I'm also lusting after a pale pink blazer, although I can't find the one I'm sure I've seen - it's always possible I imagined it though..

straighten up and fly right..

skirt: get cutie // shrug: h+m
shoes: primark
necklace: topshop

A hastily thrown-together outfit this morning, as I tried and disgarded a few things which I'm not liking the fit of recently. Very sleepy this morning, I'm blaming it on the ice-skating trip with my rangers last night, which went fairly well I think - no major injuries, and only knocked on one wrong door (much to the amusement of the girls already in the car!) I managed not to fall over, but also managed to forget to take a cardigan, and by the end couldn't really feel my arms!

My camera seems to have given up over the last few days, hence the dodgy iphone pictures - hoping to get it fixed or find another one I can use. Other than ice-skating, my week so far has consisted of a lot of chocolate, making easter nests with the guides on Monday, gradually posting out ebay parcels and taking the car-boot leftovers to the charity shops around town, and a lot of letter-writing..Apologies if you're waiting for a letter from me, I'm being so slow with it at the moment!

in the heat of the summer sunshine..

skirt: primark
knitted vest: h&m
shoes: irregular choice
necklace: accessorize
I seem to be in full-on 'summer mode' judging by this morning's events. I got dressed, deciding that although I have worn these together before, I quite liked the effect and would throw them together once more.

I then got out to the car, to find the windscreen frozen and the temperature display telling me it was -1C. By this time it was too late, as I hadn't grabbed a cardigan or anything, so I shivered my way to the office with my seat-heater on. Thankfully it's warmed up a fair amount now.

Having one of those crazy days, trying to keep up with everything.

here comes the summer..

dress: new look

can can heels: irregular choice
Wow, what a difference a bit of sunshine can make. I have had a fabulously organised and productive weekend, and I even found time to sit out in the sun and read a whole book (it was trashy, it didn't take long!).

On Friday night I went for a surprise meal for one of my best friends, which was lovely - she didn't know anything about it, and was (I think!) thrilled to turn up at the restaurant and find 16 or so of us there. Plus it was a really yummy Italian, which was a bonus!

Then Saturday morning I got up early, picked up a spade, fork and rake which a friend has given me for my alltoment, then headed down there to plant some raspberry plants which I was given last week - feels good to have some actual physical plants in the ground. Also managed to get my four rotation beds marked out with plastic edging a friend gave to me - everyone I know has been rather helpful and generous with things for the allotment and I have quite a lot of seeds now which I need to get around to planting soon.

Then went to meet plastic-edging-friend in town, where we managed to find glowsticks for next weekend's excursion with the guides, and had a lovely cafe lunch. I was fairly exhausted when I got home, so loaded up the car in advance of Sunday's car boot sale, before having an early night.

Sunday's car boot went well, I came home with less than half of the stuff I took with me, which I always feel is an achievement. Then got all my Guides shopping done for this evening's Easter meeting, and then went home to sit and read in the garden, before spending the evening packing up my week's ebay sales and listing some more things on there. There's something about Spring which makes me feel so much more positive !

you have stolen my heart..

DSC07625 One of the reject outfits when I was trying to decide what to wear on Friday - I love this dress, and other than the low-cut aspect of it, I think it fits quite well. However, there is something about it which makes me change my mind when I go to wear it - I tried it on and just didn't think I could cope with the fact that it was so low cut - any sewing experts out there have any idea how I could go about altering this to resolve? Failing that I suppose it's daft to keep something I know I won't wear, so it may be featuring on the blogsale page soon.

Dress - River Island Shoes: Primark

watch the sun come up..

dress: new look

cardigan: topshop // shoes: primark
Today, I needed a transitional outfit, as I am not heading home between work and a meal out this evening with friends. I disgarded a few options, finally settling on this - Yes, it's a little more 'dressed up' than I would usually wear to the office, and yes, it's a little more 'dressed down' than I would usually be if I were off out for the evening. But I didn't have the mental energy this morning (after another night of very little sleep, not helped by the fact that I didn't get to leave my parents' house until waay after midnight after sis' birthday, gaah to my dad's drunken ranting), definitely not enough mental energy to put two different outfits together, so I think it will do.

I haven't worn this dress for ages; I seem to recall not liking it very much, but I can't remember why now. Sometimes it's nice to have a break from things I guess.

diamonds are a girls best friend..

dress, cardigan: h+m
panda necklace: christmas gift
tights, pumps: primark
Waaah, my head is pounding today from lack of sleep: after laying in bed awake for a few hours I decided I may as well get up and get some more spring cleaning done, then wrapped my sister's birthday presents and made a card, then threw together this outfit and off to work.

I haven't worn this dress for years, as I'd got to the stage where I wasn't comfortable with the length of it; it's quite short, but I didn't think it was too bad with some thick grey tights and flat shoes - I seem to have an aversion to short dress / high heel combination most of the time..

Off for a swim after work, which I'm hoping will shift my headachey sicky feeling, and then off to visit little sis with her birthday goodies and may even partake in a slice of cake!

floating on a boat or on a star..

boat print dress: laura ashley
'my mum's garden' heels: office

cardigan: primark

I'll have you know that boats are one of my favourite prints at the moment; my favourites bar is filling up with boat print dresses as I prepare to embrace the annual nautical trend once again.
So imagine my delight when I was trawling through eBay listings a few months back and came across this beautiful vintage Laura Ashley number. It's no secret that I'm a big Laura Ashley fan, too = I have almost an entire wardrobe full of LA dresses, some of them dating back to decades ago.

So needless to say, I couldn't resist a cheeky last-minute bid on it, and was pleased when it turned up, although being white, I put it away for sunnier times..Cue the first day of Spring, where I decided to drag it out of hiding once more. After some strategic safety-pinning (I'm apparently a fair bit smaller than I was in the Winter) and some shoe-choosing, I went for this pair of Office heels in similar colours..

Anyone else ready to embrace Spring, whatever the weather may bring? I'm getting all excited about finally getting some plants into the ground at the allotment, car boot sales in actual decent weather, and even days out without the coat! (Well, maybe not, but one can dream..!)

i'm so glad you have a one track mind like me..

Have I professed my love for my bestest blogging pal recently? I haven't, you say? Well here's reason #eleventy-billion why I love Alex:

When I turned up at her house the other day, I was given a wonderful car-printed present: this Primark skirt which I've been lusting after for ages! I couldn't wait to give it it's first outing, so here is my outfit from Saturday's Trafford Centre trip.

i don't need a parachute..

parachute print top: asos

shoes: topshop

shorts, tights, cardigan: primark
I'm feeling nice and relaxed after an enjoyable and stress-free weekend, and for once my diary is fairly clear for the week, which I'm rather pleased about. A definite feeling of positivity.

It's sunny, but rather chilly here today, so I'm glad I went for the thick woolen tights with these shorts, to try and pick out some of the colours in this parachute print vest. I'd had this one saved in my ASOS wishlist for quite a while, doing my usual 'tempting fate' routine with waiting for the price to go down in the sale, when of course it sold out. I was quite lucky to find a brand new one on ebay in my size only a few weekes later, and snapped it up for less than the price it had been on the website, but I don't often have that luck.

hangin' on the telephone..

necklace: accessorize // vintage blouse: ebay
heels: next - birthday gift from alex

skirt: primark
After a late night in Liverpool on Tuesday, followed by a pre-6am departure on Wednesday morning to get to London, it's fair to say that by Thursday morning I was feeling less than inspired on the outfit front. I literally grabbed this blouse from the "to be put away" pile and threw on this skirt, which I'm still not convinced flatters me, before stumbling, bleary-eyed out of the door after taking some blurry photos.

I won the blouse on ebay about two years ago for pennies, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've worn it, so I thought I'd let it have a post!  The necklace was an accessorize sale purchase and proved to be the perfect length to clunk on and off my desk all day long. I think that's the reason I don't tend to wear many bangles, despite owning them - I tend to take them off in a rage (there's quite a pile of jewellery accumulating on my desk; from time to time I have to take them all home again).

Saturday, 17 March 2012

here's lookin' at you, kid..

boots: irregular choice

cardi: h+m
cardi: laura ashley
boots: irregular choice
Following on from my outfit post yesterday, these are the outtake photos from the outfits which didn't make it..I'm hopeless at deciding on things and tend to change everything at least twice before settling on something..

of all the gin joints in the world..

mustard heels: primark

floral pinafore dress: handmade by me !

elephant blazer: primark
I know I've been fairly quiet on the blog front this week, but I've managed to get other things done..I finished this dress on Tuesday morning and wore it for a well-enjoyed day off. I can't recall the pattern reference number (although can add it in if anyone wants) although I know it's an old one - recently, I was at my District Commissioner's house for tea before Guides and she found her old collection of sewing patterns, which she gave to me, and this was one of those.

Although I didn't remember to take a photo of the details, it's a pinafore, buttoning at the back and the straps, which meant I could use some of the lovely vintage buttons in my various jars around the flat.

I decided to go fairly simple with the mustard shoes to counter-balance the pattern clashing of the elephants. This blazer is one of my great loves at the moment; it's becoming a go-to piece and I'm certainly getting my wear from it.

A jolly outfit for a jolly day - after crossing all of the errands off my list in the morning, I went for a swim and then headed up to Liverpool to visit the lovely Alex, and off we went to watch a total classic at FACT, after a yummy halloumi (another great love, it's on the list under the elephant blazer!) sandwich and running into equally lovely Rebecca on our way.

***p.s. If you have a spare moment, go on over to A Thrifty Mrs and enter her giveaway to win an amazing Diana F+ camera! (Then again, if you don't, my chances of winning are somewhat bettered...) ***

i drove for miles and miles and wound up at your door..

dress: dorothy perkins
horse print legging, cardigan: new look
socks: primark
After having a bit of a "wobble" on Friday evening about my shape and size, it took me a while to end up on an outfit to wear to wander into town on Saturday for my errands. I'm not entirely convinced that I'd wear these together again, but individually I like all of the elements..

This week I've been sort of neglecting things over here, it's been crazy, but I hope to get back to normal tomorrow after another hospital appointment tomorrow morning - ugh.

Hope all is well with your week!

Sunday, 11 March 2012

even the stars refuse to shine..

ring: tesco clothing

dress: dorothy perkins

wedges, tights, cardigan: primark

A quick outfit, thrown together in a bleary-eyed haze. Who needs to match? I love these wedges too much to care!

Friday, 9 March 2012

do you remember the good old days before the ghost town..

cardigan@ primark
dress: cow vintage // necklace: topshop
scarf: zara // shoes: irregular choice
After a couple of matchy-matchy outfits during the course of the week, I decided it was high time for a complete mish-mash. I know I've worn this dress quite recently, but I do like it - although it's so big on me that it has been banished to the alterations pile, which I am going to try and work my way through this weekend.

It also gave me an opportunity to wear these shoes for the first time; they came to me via ebay about six weeks ago now and have been waiting for a moment to shine. I already have the same style in many other colours and patterns, and I would say that they are the most comfortable style of Irregular Choice heels of all of my collection.

I have another fairly quiet weekend planned, which is fine as this week has really taken it out of me and I'm feeling the need to relax in readiness for another crazy week next week. Any exciting weekend plans out there?
