Last weekend, we defied the grey skies and bought a group train ticket to take a group of guides to the seaside. Barmouth, to be precise. For some silly reason I'd just assumed the weather would be like the previous weekend, with it's glorious sunshine, forgetting of course that grey skies are more like the British summer weather we know and love tolerate.

The train journey took us through some patches of showers, but when we arrived, about midday, we breathed a sigh of relief at the fact that actually, the clouds seemed to be moving away from us. It was so nice, in fact, that we managed to paddle in the sea, which was warmer than expected.

Deciding to get the later train home after all in order to make the most of the pleasant weather, we spent a good few hours pottering around the shops, building sandcastles and boats in the sand, paddling in the sea and stopping for ice creams and/or fish and chips.

As is my beach standard, I wore my Cath Kidston safari playsuit, which I picked up in the sale a few weeks ago in London. I've mentioned before that I find shorts and playsuits much more practical for beach and camping activities and it was useful to be able to layer my jumper on and off as required during cloudy spells.

Good old British weather.

  2. The top picture of you is just lovely! I'm always jealous of people who can wear playsuits, they are so practical for things like this, unfortunately I look like a sack of potatoes in them!

    1. Thank you. I do find that I have to check the length of them, I have quite a "long body" (I know this only from dressmaking classes) so it can mean that if the shorts section is short, I can end up looking as though I'm wearing pants - not cool.

  6. You look very much at ease here. I was just commenting on Sophie's post about the calming effect the beach has on me. Seems it gets you that way too?

  12. I love the playsuit, it looks really good on you so great choice. I'm glad the weather cleared up a bit for you, there's nothing worse when you venture to the beach for it to rain. Especially as I wholeheartedly agree with you, we definitely tolerate these British "summers" hah! x
