Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat..

Dress: Handmade (Emery bodice w/gathered skirt)
Sandals: Poetic Licence
Fascinator: Handmade

Back in March when I spent a day in London for my Queen's Guide presentation, we spent some hours at the V+A museum, which is definitely one of my favourite places in London. I snapped a photo of the 50s fashion section because when I spotted this fascinator / hat / whatever it was, I decided that I really wanted one.

When will I wear it? Who knows. But it's pretty.

So, a few weeks back I passed by the local craft shop, who were having a sale and picked up two packets of sequins. I already had everything else I'd needed and got to work on it that day

Since then it's been one of those things which I've added a little more to whenever I've had a spare five minutes, or when we've been watching DVDs. {Incidentally, I'm a little bereft now that I've reached the end of Breaking Bad and need suggestions for box sets to watch next..!}

Anyway, when I got to the stage where the base was completely full of sequins and beads, I stitched a hair comb onto the back and declared it finished! And then wondered what on Earth to wear it with.
Inspired by Alex's reminder that sequins can be daywear, I chucked on my favourite dress and some shoes and was good to go.

This is in no way a tutorial as I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to things like this - I just like to use things I've seen as inspiration and do my own thing.

Have you ever seen something you've ended up being inspired by?

  1. Char this dress couldn't be any more perfect for you!

    1. It's definitely one of my favourites - I've worn it soooo much!

  2. I love the V&A too! I'm planning a day there to see two exhibitions - Horst and wedding dresses through the ages (yep, sad but true given that recent post of mine but it's pretty dresses - what's not to love?!).
This fascinator-hat is lovely, I totally agree that sequins can be worn anytime, in fact I think I only ever wear them casually, during the day.
I recently made a tassel necklace after seeing one in Accessorise (and I kinda like my version better).
    Boxset - Dexter??

    1. Apparently the wedding dress exhibit is OK, but not great, according to one of my rangers who went when we went to London in July. I haven't been as I hate all things wedding.
      OOh, will look for Dexter.

  3. Oh Char I love it! I'm a huge fan or anything sparkly and this is beautiful. And it looks fab with your dark hair and pretty dress.

    X x

  4. It is very very pretty! Well done you!

    1. Thanks, I'm sort of missing having a hand-sewing project, though so I'm now making a CK style spider jumper!

  5. If I were to make a dress I feel that this is very similar to the dress I would make!

    1. Haha, it's probably one of my very favourite dresses!

  6. Oooh, wish we could have a clearer picture of it to have a gander at! Very beautiful from what I can see!
Your dinosaur dress makes me smile lots!!!!
    Hope you are well Char!

    1. Will try to remember to take some better photos - it was such a bright morning!

  7. You look amazing! I love how colourful the outfit is, and the print on the dress is so cute! xx
