A pirate's life for me..

Dress: Handmade (Simplicity 2444)

One of my latest and already one of my favourite makes. Yet another Simplicity 2444. I seem to go through phases of flicking back and forth between this and my other dress patterns, but somehow just always seem to go back to this one. I guess that makes me boring, or unambitious. But I'm fine with that.

Coat: Marks and Spencer
The fabric I used here was a Kokka Japanese import, which I ordered from Plush Addict. Although I've only just made it up, I bought it a little while ago and it seems to be sold out there, now.  The closest I can find is in a different colourway, here. I love the fact that there are just so many colours within the print - plus, it's Peter Pan, which is kind of awesome.

Octavius shoes: Irregular Choice
These cute little critter shoes were another of the pairs I received for Christmas and I love them. And I finished off the whole thing with this heart necklace; a gift from someone special many years ago.

  4. Love your pirate dress! It looks great with your coloured tights. I don't think using the same pattern makes you boring - just shows you know your style and what suits you :)

  5. Absolutley not boring or unambitious. This is cool as cool can be! When something works so well it presents a great opportunity to focus on all the great fabrics we can tap into!

    1. Well, that's a good point and what I think about it, really. I'm happy to stick to handful of patterns which are the style of the dresses I would be drawn to in shops.

    1. I've got to admit, Octoavius weren't a style I'd particularly wanted when I first saw them but I love them!

  10. That dress is amazing and it looks gorgeous on you! The only thing that matters is that you like the designs you make. There's no need to waste money making dresses from other patterns if you prefer the ones you usually make. The prints make them all look different, anyway! Oh, and that coat is gorgeous! xx

  11. I've made two Simplicity 2444s and I love them - definitely my favourite pattern so far! I love how easy it is to put together, the range of options you have with sleeves, collar etc. and the pockets. You always do a gathered skirt on it though don't you? I might have to try that sometime - I've never been particularly fond of doing gathers, but I think it looks really good on you!

    1. Thank you. I don't always make gathered skirts, but quite often have been lately. Mostly because I'm lazy and they're much quicker to do.
