When life gives you lemons..

I've felt a little numb this week. For a lot of the week. I know that bloggers get a bad press for always showing only the "perfect" side of their lives but I don't think I've ever done that. Yes, this week has been pretty shitty. Yes, I am regretting the decision to make a change in my medication. But there are still things to do and however much I've struggled to do so, I've had to get up and get on with things. For the week anyway. This weekend, all bets are off and I have a date with my tear-stained pillow.

Anyway. I tried to dress to cheer myself up (it didn't work) the other day. I can't recall where this lemon print dress came from originally, it's never had any tags on it. I took the opportunity to use my new (a gift from last weekend's shopping trip) lemon clutch bag, some old shoes and a pair of footless tights, which I've not worn for years!

What do you do to get you back on track when things are rubbish?

  1. I'm sorry you're having a tough time :/

The dress is by Red Herring (Debenhams). I used to own it but had to eBay it because the fit was awful on me. It looks fabulous on you.

    1. Oh, thank you. I think maybe it came from a clothes swap or a charity shop as it seems to have had the tags cut out. Love the bright print.

  2. I hope you're feeling better soon Char, I didn't publicise it but I had a complete breakdown a couple of months ago and ended up off work for six weeks. I found that the best ways for getting through the day was trying to get out a little bit, even just in the garden, and I found adult colouring books really good for distraction and mindlessness when I couldn't concentrate on anything else xx

    1. Oh Laura, I'm so sorry to hear this but I'm glad that you were able to take some time out to yourself and hopefully things are getting back on track?

  3. Oh Char, I wish I could help! Is there anything you could change in your life? Would moving to somewhere else, getting a different job help? I do think you need that hot weather holiday I've mentioned before. Am loving the lemons by the way! You LOOK cheerful even if you don't feel it!x

    1. I think a holiday would be great, I just don't think there's any way it's a possibility for me at the moment. I am taking a guides trip to Paris this weekend, so that will be a change of scene, although I'm very stressed about the ferry crossings and suchlike.

  5. I've had a week like this myself - it's always hard to pick yourself back up but I usually take some time for myself and re-connect to how I'm feeling and what I want to do. I always believe a good hot bath and a good sleep helps and getting outside and getting offline always helps me - it's strange but sometimes being online and blogging can sometimes make how I'm feeling worse, don't know if that's just me, but when I've had digital holidays I've always felt refreshed. It's never easy when medication is changed either, and I know that in the past when I've come off and gone back onto tablets for depression and anxiety that I've felt a little out of sorts for a while just as they take effect. Really hope you're doing OK and are feeling brighter soon. You look lovely, as always, too. - Tasha

    1. Oh, I know, there are definitely no quick fixes. Thank you. I disagree that you're old enough to be my mum, though!

  8. You look amazing, Char! Everything about this outfit is perfect. The colours, the prints, the bag... <3.

I'm sorry you've had a horrible week. I hope this week is a lot brighter for you. I don't know about everybody else, but I personally prefer reading blogs that include the shit times as well as the perfect ones. It's real! It's harder to relate to people whose lives always appear to be perfect. xx

    1. Thank you. I think there are some things I don't really talk about on my blog, when they involve work or relationships, but other than that, I do tend to share most of what I'm thinking / feeling.
